Iconography is everywhere in contemporary life: Blue recycling bins, stop signs, hazard labels, PG-13 ratings, trademarks.  Although we understand and often follow the directions or warnings given by these images, they are so common in our environment that they disappear.  There are similar Jewish symbols that remind and guide Jews through their day.  Like the blue bin, these signs are everywhere and often disappear into the landscape while still maintaining their meaning.

Contemporary Jewish Iconography
As an artist, I am fascinated by the intricate yet logical systems that have been developed to assist Jews live a religious life within contemporary society.  I see a similarity between this system and the strategies employed by conceptual artists. As Jews have developed rules governing behavior, some conceptual artists, like Sol Lewitt and Fred Sandbeck, created systems that determined the form of their art.  In this body of work I apply some the rules of Jewish living to contemporary art.  Each series brings Jewish ideas to a wider audience through contemporary art as much as it brings contemporary art to communities who may not have much experience with it.
